Bio

The Gravy Boys began with a splash of olive oil,
a dash of salt and 4 cloves of garlic.

Sometime back in early '35, while on a work crew for the B&W railroad in Swamp Creek, NC, Joe Spagnardi and Steve Celestini thought it would be cool to share a little of their cultural heritage with some of their colleagues. After masterfully creating a heavenly batch of tomato sauce and treating their friends to a delicious and soul-affirming pasta dinner, complete with Italian sausage wheels from Faicco's on Bleeker St., and sauteed escarole (79 cents/lb.), Joe and Cele were dubbed "The Gravy Boys".

The term comes from the penchant of certain Italian-Americans for referring to their tomato sauce as "Gravy". Not all Italians do this, but some do, and that's good enough for us.

Later the same night, Joe and Cele broke out their guitars and entertained their fellow workers with some pickin' and a-singin'.

Shortly thereafter, Billy joined the band, and as a trio they began practicing together and performing at clam bakes and revival parties at the Chicken Shack. Shortly thereafter, Steve Storms added a little finesse to the sound. Shortly after that, Tom added some low end to the sound.

They've been keeping the pot on simmer, and stirring occasionally, ever since.
